So who is Arup?
My name is Arup Sen. That's a photo of me taken in Greenwich Park in late September 2005. I live in Sydenham, South East London with my wife Conny and my pets. I spend half of the week teaching yoga and the other half doing web designs. I work from home mainly and there is only me.
I started doing web designs around the time that photo was taken and I am totally self taught. Learn the web from the web has been my motto. It all started with doing a site for a friend. I had promised to deliver when I had no skills whatsoever. I had heard of html tags and dreamweaver but that was about it. Not wishing to back out of my challenge, I began to do many searches online about all the questions that I had. I learned about domain names and hosting, ftp, and other basics. In about 2 weeks I felt competent enough to do it. After that I was hooked.
Since 1993 I have been a yoga teacher. I began in Barcelona, Spain. Then in 1994 I did the Iyengar teacher training in Brighton. I taught about 2 or 3 classes a week in addition to a full–time job until I moved to London in 1999. Since then I have been teaching yoga full–time both in health clubs and one to one.
That first site I did was for another yoga teacher. Then came my own site, which has been through many versions. I liked it so much that I decided to make it into a second career. I researched my competition i.e. other free lance web designers and saw that they were not really targeting any specific groups, just small businesses. I realised that I was in the fortunate position of straddling both these worlds. Although I am barely in the foothills of the web design world, that was already pretty high up for the average yoga teacher or therapist. And so Arup Designs began.
